Bantuza Mchunu aspires to inspire in her filmmaking. 

She began her studies at Écolé Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation in Paris, France from 2009 to 2012 and went on to take on New York for an 8-week filmmaking diploma from the New York Film Academy. She was bitten by her love for filmmaking and came back to South Africa to begin to put into practice what she had learnt. 

In 2014 she began working at the multi award winning film and television production company Penguin films, beginning as continuity assistant, moving onto 2nd Assistant Director then 1st Assistant Director and finally ended her 3 years there as a director. Her credit highlights include being Creative Producer and Director for the award winning local series Isikizi and  Director for the musical drama series Ingoma, both for Msanzi Magic. 

Bantuza’s works closely with her actors, has keen visual eye for a unique aesthetic and fosters the relationship between the actor and the space in relation to the camera. She believes the future of film is bright and promising and that film needs to steer toward the betterment of society. She wants to create films that not only leave a lasting message, but of course, be entertaining too.
